CARL CORCORAN PRESENTS
A Day with Acclaimed Songwriter John Spillane
Date: August 31st 2019
Venue: Abbey Tavern Howth Dublin 13
Songwriting Workshop 2-4pm John Spillane In Conversation with Carl Corcoran 5-6pm (supported by IMRO Ireland) John Spillane in Concert 8pm
John Spillane is a musician, songwriter, performer, recording artist, storyteller, poet, dreamer - a canvass filled with colour and brilliance. His music transports the listener; his live performance captivates the audience. Two-time Meteor award winner, John is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland today. Among those who have covered his songs are Christy Moore, Karan Casey, Pauline Scanlon, Cathy Ryan, Sean Keane to name a few.
In the afternoon workshop, participants will examine and enjoy how a story may be told in a song and look at the magical chemical reaction that happens when words and music meet. John will focus on helping participants lose whatever inhibitions and fears they may have about writing songs while also sharing tricks of the trade on verse, chorus, repetition, and rhyme. Songwriters should be prepared to sing and embrace the joy of the process.
Later In Conversation with Carl, John will discuss his inspirations and relate his journey in the world of song. Extracts from his recent publication Will We Be Brilliant Or What will shine a light on his songs and stories.
And to close the day, John’s Concert Performance in the Main Room Abbey Tavern will delight audiences – filled with his magical and mystical songs interspersed with his unique sense of humour, life and love.
