FREE WORKSHOP
with
JOEY ALEXANDER
Monday 10th July at 3.30pm
in The Royal Irish Academy of Music, 36 - 38 Westland Row, Dublin 2
Joey Alexander, the first real prodigy in jazz history is giving an impromptu workshop in Dublin on Monday 10th July prior to his performance in The NCH on Wednesday 12th July. The event will be aimed at the 9 – 15 year old age group (Although all are welcome) and will be completely free to attend. It is being created to give young people in Dublin/Ireland a chance to connect with this wonderfully inspirational young musician. Joey will perform some of his music, discuss how he overcame some of the challenges of performing music at such a young age, talk about his influences and what he is learning from working with the best jazz musicians in the world. Joey, who first came to prominence when he was 8 years old, will describe the transition of leaving his homeland in Indonesia to move to New York City to pursue his talent. Joey hopes that his presence in Dublin will encourage other young people like him to play music and achieve their goals.
The event will no doubt have a positive lasting effect on all who are in attendance and we encourage you to tell your children, your grandchildren, your neighbours, your friends with children.
We are making the workshop free to attend but I would ask you to indicate to me your intention to attend by replying to this email or replying on the Dublinjazz.ie Facebook posting. My number is 087 648 7543 and please feel free to call me or better still text me if you need any other information.
A special word of thanks to The Director of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Deborah Kelleher, for her tremendous co-operation in creating this event.
