Greg Lloyd Group (GLG) JJ Smyths Aungier St. Dublin 2 Thursday 21st. May 2015 Doors 8.30PM Music 9.00PM
Featuring Greg Lloyd (piano), Dave Redmond (bass) and Kevin Brady (drums)

The Greg Lloyd Group (GLG) returns to JJ's to celebrate Greg's upcoming Australian Tour, June to August 2015. This dynamic instrumental piano-based group craft original compositions and re-worked Jazz standards ranging from intricate and subtle to driving and rhythmic with melody at the heart of the set.

The music is instrumental World Jazz in piano trio format inspired by the music of Avishai Cohen, Esbjorn Svensson Trio (EST), Pat Metheny and by Greg's time working on the film 'El Gusto' with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), an award-winning film about the lost 'Chaabi' music of Northern Africa.

The GLG debut CD 'Long Way Home' has received rave reviews and radio play here and abroad, including Japan where the group is starting to make waves.

“ There is a rare quality about the music” Takashi Yamamoto – Japan Disk Union.

“..a ruminative, mellow texture reminiscent of the Tord Gustavson Trio” - RTE Ten.

“..one of the outstanding Irish Jazz LP’s of recent years” Irish Independent.

Expect a high-energy night of diversity and originality from this fine group as they perform new and old compositions in preparation for Greg's tour. A gig not to be missed…
