There is always a degree of trepidation in settling down to watch a one person play, but Roseanne Lynch who wrote and performed Zandra, Queen of Jazz is simply incredible. Aided by her sharply accurate band, she transforms a bare stage into a life.

The audience is guided through the story of Josephine Alexander Mitchell, self-christened ‘Zandra’ an enigmatic, charismatic femme fatale, who travelled through Europe as a Jazz Musician. Her life began in quiet Dublin, ‘before Easters were rising’ and had her everywhere from cool London to underground Jazz halls in Nazi-run Berlin and back to rural Ireland. The performance was filled with a multiplicity of colourful characters, destinations and time, so much so that it is hard to remember the true reality of the stage- A single, sparkly clad woman, accompanied only by a prop microphone and chair, a true credit to Katherine Soloviev, director.

Lynch faultlessly zips through the performance echoing the plucky, joie de vivre personality of Zandra. The lights, by Lianne O’Shea have Zandra moving across the stage as a child, jazz star, frightened stowaway and finally old woman. Richard Lennon, who provides original music perfectly echoes the tones and beats of the story and allows the music to have a cheeky life of its own.

This is both an invigorating and empowering performance and will have audiences kicking themselves for not running off to the circus.

Neil Christian and the Crusaders, featuring a young Jimmy Page on guitar, played a concert at Holloway Women’s Prison in London, England. The inmates were all dressed in washed out yellow, green, blue and red faded floral print dresses and wore homemade mascara, using the charcoal from burnt matches.

The Beatles recorded their first BBC radio session at the BBC Paris studio on Regent Street in London. They played 'Twist and Shout', 'Love Me Do' and 'P.S. I Love You', the tracks were aired on the BBC Light Program 'Talent Spot.'

Mick Jagger was fined £16 for driving offences by a court in Tettenhall, Staffs. His solicitor told the court: "The Duke of Marlborough had longer hair than my client and he won some famous battles. His hair was powdered, I think because of fleas. My client has no fleas."

The 16-date UK package tourwith Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Move, The Nice, The Outer Limits, The Eire Apparent and Amen Corner travelled to Belfast to appear for two shows at the Whitla Hall, Queens College. It was Jimi's 25th birthday and before the shows the guitarist was given a birthday cake by the promoters This was to be the only concert that The Jimi Hendrix Experience ever played in Ireland.

During a North American tour The Rolling Stones played the first of four shows at Madison Square Garden, New York City. The group played to 55,000 fans over the four nights grossing over $100,000.

Black Sabbath, Cactus and Steel Mill, (featuring Bruce Springsteen) all appeared at the Sunshine In, Asbury Park in New Jersey. All three acts played two shows, tickets cost $5.00.

George Harrison released All Things Must Pass which includes the hit singles 'My Sweet Lord' and 'What Is Life', as well as songs such as 'Isn't It a Pity' and the title track that had been turned down for inclusion on releases by the Beatles. The Beatles recorded a television interview at Westward Television Studios in Plymouth, Devon, for a local teen program "Move Over, Dad". Due to a large crowd of excited fans outside, The Beatles had to be smuggled from their dressing-room at the ABC Cinema, where they were scheduled to appear that night, into an adjacent building, then through a tunnel, to get to Westward Studios for the interview taping.

Decca Records released The Rolling Stones' 'Little Red Rooster'. Written by Willie Dixon (as The Red Rooster), and previously recorded by Howlin’ Wolf and Sam Cooke, the single was recorded at Chess Studios in Chicago. The single was a No.1 hit in the UK and remains the only time a blues song has ever topped the UK pop chart.

Syd Barrett released his second solo album Barrett only 10 months after his debut The Madcap Laughs. David Gilmour produced the whole album, which also featured performances by Pink Floyd's Richard Wright on keyboards. The album has since been reissued in remastered form with extra tracks from the sessions.
